Capitol Heights officials are planning the fourth annual Hoops Classic basketball tournament on July 28 and July 29. The adult full-court basketball tournament is scheduled for 10 a.m. July 28 at Larchmont Park at 511 Larchmont Ave. Registration is $60 for up to seven people on an adult team. Registration forms can be found at www.capitolheightsmd.com. The “Rising Stars” half court youth tournament for ages 18 and under is planned for 11 a.m. July 29 at the court located at One Capitol Heights Blvd. Registration is free for the youth tournament, but should be filled out in advance using the form on the town website — www.capitolheightsmd.com.

“Usually we have about 100 to 150 participants,” said Kenny Young, assistant town administrator. “It’s an event that people in the community enjoy. It’s for those into fitness and want to get out and enjoy some competition.”

The money raised from the adult registration will go toward town youth programming, Young said.

“We normally get about $500,” he said. “We do a few day trips for the kids during special holidays that the town puts on like our Easter egg hunts. [The tournament] helps offset some of the costs for other events for children in the town.”
