Kasko makes dean’s list

Spencer A. Kasko, a member of the Class of 2012 at Colby College in Waterville, Maine, was named to the dean's list for his outstanding academic achievement during the spring semester of the 2011-2012 year. Kasko is the son of Laura Kasko of Mechanicsville and was home schooled.

Gailey noted for academic achievement

Rebecca Rose Gailey of Mechanicsville was named to the dean’s list/honor roll for the spring semester of the 2011-2012 academic year at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Gailey, who was a senior at the university at the time, was pursuing a double major in international studies and journalism and mass communications.

JMU announces graduates

Jenna Stone of California, Jacquelyn McKay of Hollywood, Elizabeth Palmer of Leonardtown and Olivia Ponse of Leonardtown graduated from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va., during the university’s May 5 commencement exercises.

Stone earned a bachelor of science degree in communication studies. McKay graduated with a master of arts degree in teaching. Palmer graduated with a bachelor of business administration degree in marketing. Ponse graduated with a bachelor of science degree in mathematics.

Wallace honoredJasmine Terri Wallace of Lexington Park was named to the dean’s list at the University of Memphis for the spring 2012 semester.

Dobberstein honored at Baylor

Pamela Renee Dobberstein of Lexington Park was named to the dean’s list at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, for the 2012 spring semester. Dobberstein is a student in the university’s college of arts and sciences.

Goff lands internship

Matthew Goff of Hollywood, a rising junior at High Point University in High Point, N.C., is serving as a summer intern at Scott & Stringfellow, a wholly-owned nonbank subsidiary of BB&T Corporation. As a summer analyst, Goff, who is majoring in accounting with a minor in finance at High Point, is getting the chance to see how a professional investment firm works.

Scott & Stringfellow operates as a full-service regional brokerage and investment banking firm serving individual, institutional, corporate and municipal clients. Goff is working under the direction of Robert Rose, managing director and a Scott & Stringfellow top 10 financial advisor. Goff assists in portfolio management, equity research and other day-to-day tasks.

Goff hopes to become a portfolio manager after college. He serves as president of the Floyd T. Craven Investment Club at HPU. He plans to take the CFA Level I exam after graduation.

Hebron earns degree

Chantal Hebron of Lexington Park graduated cum laude from the University of Charleston in Charleston, W.Va., in May. Hebron earned a bachelor of science degree from the school of arts and sciences in physical education, health and wellness.

Bussler, Taylor make dean’s list

Lauren Bussler of Leonardtown and Shelby Taylor of Mechanicsville were named to the spring 2012 dean’s list at Wake Forest University in Winston Salem, N.C.

Frostburg announces dean’s list

The following students from the area were named to the dean’s list at Frostburg State University in recognition of outstanding academic achievement for the spring 2012 semester.
