Gunfire struck a man’s shoulder on Sunday along South Shangri-La Drive in Lexington Park, police report, as the law officers responded to a nearby restaurant’s parking lot to control a crowd of about 200 people.

Fights erupted in the area before the shooting occurred, and the wounded 26-year-old man was flown to a hospital to be treated for his non-life threatening injuries, according to St. Mary’s sheriff’s deputies.

No arrests were reported from the ongoing investigation of the shooting, which police report occurred in a parking lot across the street from the restaurant, but three county residents were taken into custody at the scene on misdemeanor charges.

Berry D. Hillian, 25, of Callaway was charged with disorderly conduct. Bryan A. Carter, 35 of St. Inigoes was charged with failing to obey police and the possession of marijuana. David Michael Faxon, 24, Lexington Park was charged with disorderly conduct and hindering police in court papers alleging he was yelling at the wounded man, who was lying on the ground behind a van where a sheriff’s deputy had taken cover and was trying to protect him from the crowd.

The three men who were arrested were released later that day on personal recognizance.

During the initial police response, a sheriff’s deputy was trying to control the crowd in the parking lot of The Lexington restaurant, court papers state, when he heard the several gun shots being fired across the street in the parking lot of a small shopping center.
