A man has been charged with raping a housekeeper while he was a guest at the Hampton Inn hotel in Waldorf.

The housekeeper told police July 20 that she had been raped five days earlier by Francisco Lopez-Lopez, whom she knew as a three-week guest at the hotel and as an employee at the recently opened Cafe Rio Mexican Grill in Waldorf, where she also works part-time, according to charging documents.

The woman said Lopez-Lopez let her into his hotel room July 15 so she could perform her normal housekeeping duties. She asked him to leave the room so she could clean it, and he did so, court papers state.

But as the housekeeper finished making one of two beds in the room and turned around to make the second, she found Lopez-Lopez standing behind her.

“He grabbed her wrists and told her that if she screamed he would hurt her,” charging papers state.

The woman told police that Lopez-Lopez then pushed her down on the bed, forcibly removed her clothing and raped her.

Once the alleged rape was over, Lopez-Lopez “told her not to say anything and he didn’t want to hear any comments from anyone at the hotel or the restaurant Cafe Rio’s. He also told her she did not know what he is capable of,” the papers state.

The housekeeper said she waited to report the rape because she did not want to lose either of her jobs or her work visa and she feared that her boyfriend might hurt Lopez-Lopez were he to find out.

After speaking with the woman, detective K. Selkirk of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office went to the restaurant and found Lopez-Lopez, who agreed to speak with the detective.

After initially denying he had ever had sexual contact with the housekeeper, maintaining that the two merely had a working relationship, Lopez-Lopez eventually said that the two had consensual sex in his hotel room July 15, court papers state. He denied surprising the woman and said he never hurt her.

“He said he even called her later the same day and asked her if she enjoyed it, and she said she did,” the papers state.

Lopez-Lopez has been charged with second-degree rape, fourth-degree sex offense and second-degree assault.

A Charles County District Court judge ordered him held without bond during a July 23 bail review hearing.
