A Dunkirk teenager died Saturday morning after the motorcycle he was driving turned on its side and slid more than 200 feet in Anne Arundel County.

At 7:04 a.m. Saturday, Anne Arundel County Police and fire officials responded to Route 4 near Lower Pindell Road for a report of a single vehicle crash involving a motorcycle, according to an Anne Arundel County Police Department press release.

Officials found a black 2003 Kawasaki sport bike on its side in the left lane of Route 4. The operator of the motorcycle, Tyler R. Davis, 19, of Dunkirk was found near the bike. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Davis was traveling south in the left lane on Route 4, police said, when he apparently drove off of the left shoulder of the road into the grass median. In the median, the motorcycle fell onto its side and slid about 247 feet before coming to a rest, according to the press release.

Police said operator error and possibly excessive speed contributed to the accident. An investigation is being conducted by the Traffic Safety Section of the police department.

Lisa Tenney, Davis’s mother, said her son graduated in 2011 from Northern High School and was employed at Global Resource Recyclers Inc.

In his spare time, Tenney said, Davis enjoyed fishing, boating, 4-wheeling, working on cars and riding his motorcycle. She said Davis began riding motorcycles when he was about 4 years old before he learned to ride a bicycle.

Tenney said the last time she saw Davis was last week when they went to dinner together.

“It just doesn’t seem like reality,” Tenney said. “I’d like to hug him one more time.”

A visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. until the time of service at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, at Lee Funeral Home Calvert, 8200 Jennifer Lane in Owings.

Interment will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Department, 3170 West Ward Road, Dunkirk, MD 20754.
