Delayed already by more than an hour and a half because of lightning and rain, Tuesday night’s Maryland State American Legion first round contest between the host Francis Scott Key Post 11 and Severna Park Post 175 was suspended in the bottom of the second because of lightning.
The contest was to resume at 9 a.m. Wednesday with Post 175 holding a 3-1 lead at McCurdy Field.
Severna Park jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a run-scoring, bases-loaded groundout by Tom Weyand and then a two-run error in right field on a long fly ball off the bat of Matt Ferrara with two out and two on.
Post 11 trimmed the lead to 3-1 in the top of second inning on an error by Post 175 while attempting to turn a double play. The relay to first base went wide, allowing Michael Omelchenko to score from second base. The contest was then halted with two out in the bottom of the second.
