At the July meeting of the Leonardtown Lions Club, Lion Carl Raley of Leonardtown receives the Melvin Jones Fellowship, one of the most prestigious awards given by Lions International, which was presented by Maryland Lions District 22C Gov. Donald Beeson. Raley was chosen by club members for his “exemplary service and dedication” as a Lion. He joined the Lions in 1981 and served as King Lion for the 1986-1987 year. He was club president during the first St. Mary’s County Crab Festival, which was held in September 1986. He has served as secretary and is currently chair of the membership committee. He joins past and present recipients of this fellowship: Bernie Beavan, Charlie Breck, Dick Russell, Jerry Pope, Jim Raley, Kennedy Abell, Mary Beth Wilhite and her husband Orvin “Pappy” Wilhite.
