Workshops planned for parents
Parents can learn simple, everyday activities they can do with their children to help them to be ready to learn to read at a workshop on Aug. 9 at 6 p.m. at either the Charlotte Hall or Leonardtown library. Registration is required.
Opening reception set for artists
An opening reception will be held Aug. 9 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Lexington Park library for the members of the Calvert Artists Guild, whose artwork is on display through Aug. 31 in the library’s art gallery.
Summer reading programs end Aug. 11
The library’s summer reading programs will end Saturday, Aug. 11. Participants are reminded to bring in their game boards and receive their prizes. A book will be given to those who complete their game boards.
Buying a computer?For those who are considering purchasing or replacing a computer, Charlotte Hall library will offer a program on buying a computer on Aug. 15 at 5 p.m. Registration is required.
On Aug. 28, adults can learn how to use Open Office, a free tool to use in place of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) at the Charlotte Hall branch at 10 a.m. Registration is required.
Coffee hour set for adults
Adults can drop in for coffee on Aug. 13 at 1 p.m. at the Leonardtown library and enjoy conversation with other adults at Books, Coffee and Conversation.
Poets can share poetry
Leonardtown library will host its monthly poetry open mic on Aug. 15 at 6:30 p.m. Poets of any age can share their original poems or favorite ones. The public is invited to come and listen.
Mobile Career Center returns to libraries
The Southern Maryland JobSource Mobile Career Center will be at Lexington Park library on Aug. 22, Charlotte Hall library on Aug. 23 and at Leonardtown library on Aug. 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day to provide assistance for job seekers.
