John and Luray Schaffner of St. Leonard celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary July 6, 2012.

They were married by Dr. Lance Webb at North Broadway Methodist Church in Columbus, Ohio, in 1962.

Raised in Ohio and having resided both in the Washington, D.C., area and in St. Louis, Mo., since 1969, the couple retired to Maryland in 1998.

They are the parents of two sons, Shawn Michael Schaffner, who is married to Andrea Leigh Haehling, and Jorn Michael of Cape Canaveral, Fla.
