The 12-U Cal Ripken Maryland State baseball tournament was held at Cove Point Park in Lusby, with the opening ceremonies taking place July 13. In addition to introducing the 12 teams in the tournament, one of the events for the players was a home run derby contest and Kenny Rickett from Hollywood, playing for the St. Mary's County Storm, won this contest by hitting 6 home runs in 18 swings.
