A 22-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy have been charged with first-degree burglary and attempted theft of less than $1,000 after a homeowner caught them inside his White Plains home trying to steal an Xbox 360 and game controller, the Charles County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The homeowner found the front door open after arriving home at 12:03 p.m. Inside he found Jared Mathew Kimble and the boy, both of White Plains, who had put the game system and controller into plastic bags, police said.

The boy tried to escape through a back door but was unable to open it. The homeowner called police, who and arrested the intruders. Both were charged and released.

Officer K. Syvertsen investigated.
