A Drayden woman has been charged with assault after she allegedly spat on and tried to punch a police officer Friday night, police reported.
Charles County sheriffís Officer B. Flynn responded to a reported fight at the Thunderbird motel at 11050 Crain Highway in Glasva at 11:44 p.m. and learned that Sherri Michelle Lape, 33, had allegedly assaulted one of the motelís tenants.
During Flynnís investigation, Lape was yelling obscenities and threats. Flynn ordered Lape to lower her voice multiple times, but she continued yelling.
When Flynn tried to arrest Lape for disorderly conduct, she spat on him and tried to punch him. She continued to struggle and broke the driverís-side mirror on Flynnís police cruiser.
Flynn eventually subdued Lape and took her into custody. She has been charged with disorderly conduct, second-degree assault on a police officer and destruction of property valued at more than $500.
She was released Saturday on $3,500 bond.
