James Lewis Morgan, 74, Lexington Park

James Lewis Morgan, 74, of Lexington Park died after a lengthy illness Aug. 13, 2012, at Washington Adventist Hospital, Takoma Park.

Born Dec. 27, 1937, in Valley Lee, he was the son of the late Thomas Cornelius and the late RoseMary Morgan.

He was educated at Great Mills High School No. 1. He worked at Great Mills Trading Post, St. Mary’s County Department of Recreation and Parks and Bob Chapman Construction. After 20 years of employment with the St. Mary’s County public school system, he retired in 2009.

He enjoyed listening to oldies music, watching wrestling and Westerns, planting gardens, working on cars, oystering and cutting grass. He most enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his children, James Morgan II and Debra Lynn; brothers, Thomas A. Morgan and Stevenson Morgan; and sisters, Lucy Mae Morgan and Arlene Beck Morgan.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Rebecca; children, Brenda and her husband, Eddie, Frances and his wife, Tina, Ronald, Ronnie, Robert and his wife, Keisha, Stephen and his wife, Wendy and Michelle; brothers, Robert E. Sr. and his wife, Nicole, Charles E., Bobby E., Charles Gladden Jr. and his wife, Louise, Joseph K. Calvin and his wife, Francine and Eric Morgan; sisters, RoseMary II, Sadie, Frances E., Julia and Mary Agnes; and many other relatives.

Visitation will be held at 9 a.m. Aug. 17 until a service at 10 a.m. at St. George’s Catholic Church, Valley Lee. Burial will follow at St. George’s Church Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by Briscoe-Tonic Funeral Home, Mechanicsville.
