Nationwide collects donations for food bank
Edward A. Tomasko Jr. Insurance Agency is collecting donations for the Southern Maryland Food Bank in Hughesville.
The food drive will continue until Aug. 31. Items needed include canned meat, tuna and vegetables, breakfast cereal, infant formula, rice and rice cakes, and evaporated milk. Food can be dropped off at 2 Post Office Road, Suite 2A in Waldorf from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Other Nationwide Insurance agencies are participating.
“Through Nationwide Insurance Foundation you can give back and make a direct impact on the lives of people living in our community,” Tomasko said in a news release. “It’s easy to get involved and make a difference.”
The company’s foundation recently gave a $1.25 million grant to Feeding America.
Dealership hosting Operation Kidsafe
Ron Bortnick Ford will offer a free digital fingerprinting and photo program to parents from 1 to 7 p.m. Sept. 14 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 15 at the dealership at 5701 Crain Highway in Upper Marlboro.
Operation Kidsafe captures a child’s picture and fingerprints using a video-capture device, digital inkless fingerprint-capture device and specialized software. The captured data is assembled and a printout is given to the parent. The parent can use the printout to provide to law enforcement to aid in an investigation.

Hot Licks accepting donations for pantry
Hot Licks Guitar Shop will be offering free strings to those who donate nonperishable food items for the Southern Maryland Food Bank from 4 to 6 p.m. Aug. 25 at the store. Live music by the store’s instructors will be provided free.
Cub Scouts from Troop 424 will sell hot dogs and beverages during the event.
The shop is at 3250 Old Washington Road in Waldorf.
