The family of a missing Waldorf girl said Monday that their daughter returned home last week.

Kyrsten Kirby, 14, of Waldorf left home on Sunday Aug. 19, worrying friends and family.

Kyrsten’s mother, Mary, said Monday that her daughter arrived home Thursday of her own accord and that she is safe.

“We are very grateful and thankful to all the members of our community that came to help during this trying time,” Kirby said.

She said that once she discovered her daughter was missing that Sunday evening, she immediately called the Charles County Sheriff’s Office.

“The sheriff’s office was wonderful,” she said.

Once Kyrsten came home, Kirby said she called to let the sheriff’s office know and an officer came out to check on the family and interview Kyrsten.

Kirby said she and her husband are happy to have their daughter home.
