People should avoid swimming in or otherwise interacting with the water off of Chapel Point, southwest of downtown La Plata, Charles County government announced Tuesday.

Water samples taken by the Charles County Department of Health on Aug. 22 show unacceptable bacterial levels in the Port Tobacco River, a tributary of the Potomac River with its source near Chapel Point. The department will conduct additional testing, the release states.
