St. Mary’s sheriff’s deputies tending to an overdose victim last week in a bedroom at a California residence later filed heroin charges against a man in court papers alleging he came into the room during the emergency response and removed items from a dresser.

A judge ordered Friday that Steffen Zachary Monger, a 21-year-old resident at the Old Rolling Road address, remain in St. Mary’s jail in lieu of $30,000 bond on charges including the possession of heroin with the intent to distribute.

Police spotted Monger concealing syringes and a spoon as he left the bedroom on Aug. 28, and narcotics detectives called to the scene conducted a search finding suspected heroin and packaging materials, according to a statement of probable cause filed by deputy William Wood.
