Lisa Walker, 45, Mechanicsville
Lisa Walker, 45, of Mechanicsville died Sept. 10, 2012, at Virginia Hospital Center, Arlington, Va.
Born Dec. 31, 1966, in Durham, N.C., she was the daughter of Mathew and Janet Sykes.
She graduated in 1985 from McKinley High School in Washington, D.C. In 1986, she started working for FDC Reports in Bethesda as an office manager until the company was bought out by Reed Elsevier in 2006. On Aug. 2, 1991, she married Robert S. Walker Jr. in the District. In 2006, she worked for Gilbane Construction Company as an office manager until the birth of her daughter, Tamara Leigh Walker in May 2007. She then became a stay-at-home mom while she battled a rare form of cancer until the time of her death.
She is survived by her husband, Robert S. Walker Jr. of Mechanicsville; daughter, Tamara Leigh Walker of Mechanicsville; mother, Janet Gary Sykes; father and stepmother, Mathew Lee and Queen Sykes; sister, Christa Sykes; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert S. Sr. and Sandra Walker of Washington, D.C; brothers-in-law, Michael A. Walker and Keith T. Walker and his wife, Devyn of Washington, D.C.; and many other relatives.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Sept. 19 at Living Word Community Church, Mechanicsville. Burial will take place at 1 p.m. at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham.
