Emily Mae Pernell, 24, of Great Mills on Sept. 12, 2012, at her home.

Born Nov. 21, 1987, in Leonardtown, she was the daughter of the late Donald Gregory Semones and Judith Vranicar Semones of Great Mills.

She was a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County. She graduated from Great Mills High School in 2005. She was enrolled in Blades School of Hair Design, where she was studying to become a hairdresser. She was passionate about doing hair and was looking forward to finishing school and getting her license.

In November 2008, she married Dustin Pernell. She loved children, and she was expecting her first child, a daughter, in February 2013. She had many hobbies, including doing hair; shopping with her best friend, Carly; cooking; and playing with her pets. She was known for her creativity and had a flair for design and color.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is also survived by her brother, Gregory Harrison Semones of Great Mills; her grandparents, Virginia Vranicar of Durham, N.H., and Gerlene Baker of Radford, Va.; her uncles, Randy Semones (Pam) of Norfolk, Va., and Mark Vranicar of Durham; her aunts, Susan Mullan (Dermott) of Elkton, Robin Vranicar of Manoset, Mass., and Jill Vranicar of Portsmouth, N.H.; her stepson, Jordan Pernell of California; godparents, Ed and Cheryl Morasch and their children, Beverley, Carly and Ethan; and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her father.

The family will receive friends today, Sept. 19, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Brinsfield Funeral Home in Leonardtown. Interment will be private.
