Dr. John Henry Moling III, 84, of Charlotte Hall died peacefully Sept. 14, 2012, at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home.
Born Nov. 3, 1927, in Winchester, Va., he was the son of John H. Moling Jr. and Rebecca Howland Baird.
A 33-year resident of Bowie and one of the first pediatric/family practitioners in Belair-at-Bowie, he cared for generations of families in that area.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1948 (Korea). He attended Hampden-Sydney College, University of Richmond and University of Virginia Medical School. He married Dorothy “Dottie” Lee Parkinson of Hampton, Va., a registered nurse and fellow UVA alumna, in June 1954. He served his residency in Cleveland, worked at pediatric practices in Winchester and Dubuque, Iowa; did medical research at U.S. Food and Drug Administration in Washington, D.C., then had a solo pediatric practice in Bowie from 1964. He retired in 1996.
He resided in Bolivia, N.C.; Annapolis; San Jose, Calif.; and Charlotte Hall. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, woodworking, travel, boating with the Chesapeake Yacht Club. He will be remembered for his diagnostic prowess, work ethic, gift of gab and charming smile.
He is survived by his son, Jim (Hiroko) of Laurel; his daughters, JoAnne “Jo” (George Drapeau) of Bowie and Susan (Ali Ekici) of Los Gatos, Calif.; his granchildren, Bekka Baltzell, Ryan and Jenny Moling, Shenel, Ayla and Selin Ekici; his sister, Jer, Jen Moling, Theresa Gross, Madeline Gross and family; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 2008; his sister, Sara Moling MacKinnon in 2006; his sister-in-law, Ann Parkinson Stallings-Wolfe in 2012.
