Lilla Mae Castillo, 81, Mechanicsville

Lilla Mae Castillo, 81, of Mechanicsville died Sept. 13, 2012, at the Fairland Center, Silver Spring.

Born May 4, 1931, in Durham, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Thurman Strickland and the late Campie Strickland-Carlisle.

She was employed as a rehabilitation technician for Pathways Inc. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Her hobbies were gardening, fishing, crabbing and bingo.

She left a lasting impression on all she came in contact with. Her positive attitude and sense of humor complemented her sweet disposition and strength to live her life to the fullest. She was thankful for every day she was able to spend with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Daminig “Nick” Castillo; daughter, Susan Carter; and grandson, Scotty Carter.

She is survived by her daughters, Benette “Dee” R. Goldsmith and her companion, John Gibson, Elizabeth Erculiani and her husband, Gary, and Victoria D. Welch and her husband, George; brothers, Pietro D. Costello and his wife, Patricia and Vincent D. Costello; grandchildren, Angela and Kelly Goldsmith, Vinnie and Catrina Costello, Beverly Costello, Virginia Lola, Gary Jr., Nicholas, Joseph and Thomas Erculiani, Victor Jimenez, Valerie and Michael Harris, Gregory Stroud Jr. and Michael and Matthew Welch; and 16 great-grandchildren.

A life celebration was held Sept. 18 at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, Charlotte Hall, where a service will be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 19. Deacon Eugene Burroughs will officiate. Burial will take place at Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown.
