Richard Robert Langer, 83, Mechanicsville
Richard Robert Langer, 83, of Mechanicsville died Sept. 16, 2012, at home.
Born Feb. 21, 1929, in McKees Rocks, Pa., he was the son of the late George Langer and the late Kathryn Langer.
Mr. Langer was a retired master sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps. After retiring from the Marines, he went to work at Ferris Baker and Watts as an assistant vice president. He loved working in his yard, gardening, old Western movies, watching the History Channel, eating out, animals and most of all spending time with his family. He also had a knack for playing the claw game and giving the stuffed animals that he won to his family and neighbors.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Langer; son, John “Bobby” Langer; brothers, James Langer and William Langer; and sisters, Bessie Langer, Rachel Bishop and Jean Butts.
He is survived by his son, Stephen R. Langer and his wife, Cynthia; daughter, Mary Rose Calvert and her husband, Thomas; brothers, John Langer and George Langer; sister, Mary Christian; grandchildren, Benjamin T. Calvert, Daniel E. Calvert, Andrew J. Calvert, David B. Langer and Katherine E. Langer; and great-granddaughter, Scarlett M. Langer.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Sept. 22 at Arehart-Echols Funeral Home, La Plata. Burial will take place at Sacred Heart Church Cemetery, La Plata.
