The Southern Maryland Youth Association Hawks are now accepting applications for both head and assistant coaches for football and cheerleading.

Coaches must be able to clear a standard background check. Several weight divisions are open.

Adult sports leagues

Charles County Department of Community Services will hold registration for adult volleyball and basketball leagues.

The adult 30-and-Over basketball leagues play on Thursdays at various locations. The cost is $525 and the registration deadline is Oct. 5.

The adult volleyball leagues play on Mondays and/or Wednesdays at various locations. The cost is $300 and the registration deadline is Oct. 5.

The adult basketball leagues for adults 18 and over play on Sundays at various locations. The cost is $725 and the registration deadline is Oct. 19.

Tennis tournament

The St. Mary’s County Tennis Association will hold its gender doubles tournament from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 7 at George B. Cecil Park in Valley Lee. The first eight men’s and first eight women's doubles teams to register will be in the tournament.
