A judge ordered Monday that Rodney W. Wright, 42, of Lexington Park remain in jail in lieu of $10,000 bond on charging papers alleging he tried to steer a car into other vehicles as he and a girlfriend were traveling, and that he scraped her neck, leaving her with deep scratch marks.

Wright was charged with committing a second-degree assault Saturday on Shirley Marie Thompson, who jumped out of the car at the San Souci Plaza shopping center in California, got back in as Wright ran after her “and sped off with him trying to hold on,” according to a statement of probable cause filed by St. Mary’s sheriff’s Cpl. Elizabeth Goodwin.
