Daniel W. Kamperin, 21, of Charlotte Hall was released from jail Sunday on $5,000 bond after his arrest on charges of armed robbery and second-degree assault filed by St. Mary’s detectives investigating an attack last week on a clerk at a Mechanicsville convenience store.

A man entering the 7-Eleven business at about 1:20 a.m. on Sept. 16 got a cup of coffee, detectives report, before he approached the counter and threw the hot beverage on the clerk, who was opening a register drawer.

The culprit jumped over the counter and threatened the clerk with a hammer during an ensuing struggle, before fleeing from the store with an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register, law officers report from the investigation by detective Cpl. Robert Merritt.
