A Roy Rogers restaurant is on target to come back to La Plata soon.
“We are on target and hopeful for a mid-October opening,” wrote Melanie Dyer, director of marketing for Roy Rogers, in an email last week.
The restaurant operated from 1983 to 2007 at the current Walgreen’s location at 6300 Crain Highway, but the new Roy Rogers will operate at the former Arby’s at 6370 Crain Highway. The property was purchased at the end of August.
Patience and James Barton, who own and operate the Roy Rogers in Solomons, will operate the La Plata Roy Rogers.
Patience Barton said she is familiar with the area, having worked at the previous Roy Rogers in La Plata, and she hopes to bring community involvement and fundraising opportunities for schools to the new location.
“I think it’s going to be great. I think people are going to be glad that it’s coming back,” Barton said.
The restaurant will have a “fixings bar,” where customers can dress up their roast beef sandwiches, fried chicken and hamburgers, like at other Roy Rogers locations, she said.
The building is undergoing several renovations, including facade improvements and a sign replacement.
“It’s going to be a newer project,” Barton said.
The restaurant is looking to hire 70 people, Barton said.
