The Charles County Economic Development Department announced that the 2012 Charles County Economic Summit, taking place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Jaycees center at 3090 Crain Highway in Waldorf, will cover the economy, entrepreneurship and technology transfer, infrastructure to support business growth and business development.
Economist Anirban Basu of the Sage Policy group will open the program with a report on the economy. A popular and entertaining speaker, Basu will cover a range of economic analyses, with the spotlight on issues that could have significant effects on the local and regional economies, such as the November election and pending automatic federal budget cuts sequestration due to take effect in January.
Entrepreneur Shirley Collier will focus on how entrepreneurs can navigate the world of growing a company and turn untapped technology resources into business opportunities through technology transfer. Collier is president of techGrowth Inc. and has more than 25 years of experience in technology research.
Other sessions at the summit will address the county’s light rail plans, business to business strategies, federal contracting and Naval Support Facility, Indian Head and access to capital.
