Benedict E. “Bud” Shoemaker, 76, of Gettysburg, Pa., died Sept. 22, 2012, surrounded by his family, following a long illness.
He was the husband of Elaine Broadhurst Shoemaker for 54 years.
He was born in Scotland on July 13, 1936, and lived in St. Inigoes. He moved to Gettysburg in 2010.
He graduated from Bethesda Chevy Chase High School in Bethesda.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and later worked for McDonnell Douglas at Patuxent River Naval Air Station and Bell Motor Co. in Leonardtown.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Michael Shoemaker and his wife, Leslie, of Gettysburg, Janine Young and her husband, David, of Georgia and Diana Conover and her husband, Jeff, of Pennsylvania.
He was preceded in death by his son, Brian Shoemaker.
He had 13 grandchildren, Daniel, Joseph and Erinn Shoemaker, Johanna Wilson, Elaine Merrick, Codie and Thomas Long, Connor and Isaiah Young, Tess and Tucker Bingham and Stephen and Leah Conover; and two brothers; Edward and James Shoemaker. He also had eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial servicewas held Sept. 30 at First Baptist Church, located at 1015 Chambersburg Road in Gettysburg.
