Two people were arrested Sept. 17 on charges including burglary for allegedly breaking into a Lusby home and stealing several items. Jewelry from a possible burglary in Mechanicsville was allegedly found in their vehicle, the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Carrie M. Tiller, 34, of Clinton and David R. Atchison, 34, of Accokeek were both charged with two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and one count each of first-degree burglary, third-degree burglary, fourth-degree burglary, rogue and vagabond and possession of cocaine.
They were released from the Calvert County Detention Center on their own recognizance.
At 12:34 p.m. Sept. 17, Deputy B. Schaefer responded to Comstock Drive for a report of a suspicious vehicle reportedly traveling at a low speed, according to a Calvert County Sheriff’s Office statement.
Deputies said the vehicle stopped and one of the two occupants got out of the truck and walked up to a house on Comstock Drive. The person saw the complainant and returned to the vehicle, which then left the area, the statement said.
Schaefer searched the area to locate the vehicle and found it unoccupied sitting in front of a house on Waco Court. Several tools, including a crowbar and a screwdriver, were seen inside the truck, deputies said.
Deputies said Schaefer left and searched the area to find the occupants. Soon after, Schaefer allegedly saw the truck traveling on San Antonio Drive and stopped the truck.
The passenger, identified as Tiller, was found to have an open warrant through Charles County and was arrested. During a search of the vehicle, jewelry, coins and tools, as well as suspected drugs, allegedly were found. The driver, identified as Atchison, was also arrested.
Deputies said that a few hours later, a homeowner on Waco Court called police and said her home had been burglarized. Coins and jewelry matching the description of the ones found in the suspect’s vehicle had been taken from the home, the press release states. One piece of jewelry located in the vehicle was discovered to belong to a victim in a possible burglary in Mechanicsville, Calvert police reported.
