Oscar George Kelsea Jr., 82, of Lexington Park, formerly of Colebrook, N.H., died Oct. 2, 2012, at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home in Charlotte Hall.
Born Aug. 11, 1930, in Colebrook, he was the son of the late Gleigh W. and Oscar G. Kelsea, Sr.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth G. Kelsea of Lexington Park, whom he married on Dec. 12, 1980, in Leonardtown; his children, Brenda Pipes (Timothy) of Tampa, Fla., Bernard Owens (Judith) of Lexington Park, Patricia Cocimano (Tony) of Lexington Park, Thomas Owens (Donna) of Valley Lee, Phillip Owens of Sarasota, Fla., Jeanne Owens of Prague, Okla., Susan Sullivan of Lexington Park, and Helen Hurst (Louis) of South Carolina; his brother, Charles Kelsea of Sun City, Fla.; 18 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one child, Burleigh Kelsea.
He attended Colebrook Academy. He moved to St. Mary’s County in 1970. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1949 to 1973, earning the National Defense Medal, six Good Conduct Medals/Commendations and the Meritorious Unit Commendation. He retired after 24 years of service. After retiring, he worked as a public safety officer for St. Mary’s College of Maryland, retiring after 20 years.
He was a member of the Thomas J. Shryock Masonic Lodge 223.
The family will receive friends Saturday, Oct. 6, from 11 a.m. to noon at Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home in Leonardtown, where a funeral service will be held at noon in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Charles Memorial Gardens in Leonardtown. Pallbearers will be Antonio Cocimano III, Adrian Kraus, Thomas Owens Jr., Andrew Owens, Antonio Cocimano and Ronald Barnes.
