James “Jim” Connors, 85, of Waldorf died Oct. 2, 2012, at Civista Medical Center in La Plata.

He was born Dec. 6, 1926, in Old Forge, Pa., to the late Michael Joseph Connors and Martha Williams Connors.

He served in the U.S. Navy as a ship fitter during World War II. Later, he became a plumber with Local Union 5 — Plumbers & Gasfitters of Washington, D.C. He retired after 32 years of service. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and cheering for his favorite football team, the Washington Redskins. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8674 and the American Legion Post 238.

He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife of 53 years, Dorothy Leah Connors; and son, James Michael Connors.

He is survived by his son, Daniel Elliott Connors and his wife, Kathryn Connors, of Charlotte Hall; daughters, Martha Jean Johnson and her husband, Joseph Johnson, of Chesapeake Beach and Colleen Leah Morris of Jacksonville, Fla.; grandchildren, Melissa Johnson, Lindsay Connors, Jaime Connors, James D. Connors, Michael Greig, Brianna Greig, Adam Greig, Samantha Smith and Joshua Smith; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Family will receive friends for a celebration of his life from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home in Charlotte Hall. A Legion service will follow at 7 p.m.

A funeral service will be at noon Thursday, Oct. 11, at the funeral home with the Rev. James Chance officiating.

Interment will follow at Maryland Veteran Cemetery in Cheltenham.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
