Registration is now open for the Southern Maryland Sabres Hockey Clubís Little Sabres program, which is for children 4 to 10. Sessions will begin Oct. 6 at Capital Clubhouse in Waldorf.
Little Sabres is a four-level program that teaches children the fundamentals of ice hockey. Each level includes four, 40-minute sessions of skills-based instruction on ice. Children will receive equipment at the end of each level so they have everything needed by the end of the program, skates excluded. Basic skating skills are required.
The cost is $60 per four-week session with an annual USA Hockey Insurance cost of $45 required. The insurance is free for children 6 and younger.

The St. Maryís County Tennis Association will hold its gender doubles tournament from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 7 at George B. Cecil Park in Valley Lee. The first eight menís and first eight women's doubles teams to register will be in the tournament.

Tide baseball tryouts
The Chesapeake Tide, an 8-U and 9-U travel baseball team, will hold tryouts through the fall and winter for players in the Southern Maryland area. Players cannot turn 9 or 10 years of age by May 1, 2013, depending on the team. The team has an indoor training facility. For more information, call Butch Britton at 410-586-9400.
Friends of Ripple Inc. will hold its fourth Annual 5K Run/Walk for Fun on Oct. 13 at the Harry Lundeberg School of Seamanship, 45353 Saint Georgeís Avenue in Piney Point.
Runners and walkers of all ages and abilities are invited to come out, race and help support Friends of Ripple Inc., a nonprofit organization that provides assistance to the St. Maryís Adult Medical Day Care Inc. and The Friends of Ripple Center.
Registration will begin at 7 a.m. and the race will start at 8 a.m. Participants who sign up onsite will be charged $25 per person or $35 per family. Family teams must include two or more adults or children under 18. Participants can register for $20 at Active.com or call 301-373-6515.

The Southern Maryland Athletics 13-U travel baseball team will hold tryouts at Patuxent High School in Lusby from 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 13 and 20.
