Coming soon to a Metro station near you, Metro officials released a teaser trailer of a full-scale model of the new 7000-series cars that are currently under production to replace the system's older generation subway cars.
The new cars boast enhanced safety features, more passenger room, and larger electronic displays to provide passengers in the cars with more information such as the next stop, Metro officials said. The full-scale model will help engineers and designers review the plans before ordering mass production of the vehicles. Metro officials hope to have 75 percent of the subway fleet made up of the 7000-series cars, which has a projected capital budget cost of more than $352 million. The cars are currently slated for delivery in fiscal 2014 and fiscal 2015.
