A Waldorf woman died in a crash Saturday afternoon in Hughesville after failing to yield the right of way to another vehicle, Maryland State Police reported.

Elizabeth Ann Watson, 73, of Waldorf was traveling west on Gallant Green Road at 1:18 p.m. in a gold 2000 Chrysler Concorde. At the intersection with Route 5 while attempting to make a left-hand turn onto southbound Route 5, Watson entered the northbound lanes in the path of a blue 2010 Jeep Cherokee driven by Nicole Antoinette Morgan, 37, of Great Mills, police said.

Watson's car was struck on the driver's side front door. She was taken by helicopter to Prince George's Hospital Center in Cheverly where she died, police reported.

Morgan was taken by ambulance to Civista Medical Center in La Plata. Her injuries were serious, police said.

Police said neither alcohol nor speed is believed to be a factor in the collision.

The investigation is being conducted by trooper A. Moore.
