The Community Foundation of Charles County has been named the Charles County Chamber of Commerce’s 2012 nonprofit of the year.

The nonprofit recipient receives half the proceeds from the Festival of Scarecrows. The award will be presented at the La Plata Fall Festival on Oct. 21.

The Community Foundation was an instrumental partner with the county government and the United Way of Charles County in conducting a community-needs assessment, Chamber President Carlos Montague said in a news release.

A priority list was developed and has served an important role in determining where resources are most needed and could have the most impact, Montague said.

The Community Foundation also serves as a local source to link those wishing to solve the community’s social, health, educational and life issues and needs, he said.

“We are proud to have organizations with the stature of the Community Foundation among our members, and it is with great pride in their work that we honor their commitment and dedication to the citizens of Charles County,” Montague said.
