The Maryland State Police Prince Frederick Barrack is investigating a fatal accident, which occurred in Solomons Tuesday evening.
According to a press release, Zenaida Suarez Baquiran, 55, of Glen Allen, Va., was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision, which involved three vehicles on Route 4 near the Naval Recreation Center. At about 5:41 p.m., police arrived at the scene of the accident and the preliminary investigation determined Baquiran had been heading south, driving a black 2008 Honda Civic in the slow lane. Baquiran changed into the left lane and the rear of the vehicle struck the front of a red 2003 Ford Mustang, driven by Miguel Angel Salazar Diaz, 28, of Lexington Park. After colliding with the Mustang, Baquiran’s vehicle crossed the median into oncoming northbound traffic and struck a blue 1996 Ford F250, driven by Charles Paul Hester, 51, of Lusby.
Baquiran was pronounced dead at the scene. Hester was taken to Prince George’s Hospital Center for non-life threatening injuries. MSP troopers were assisted at the scene by members of the Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department, the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office and the State Highway Administration. The investigation is ongoing, but police said in the press release that alcohol and speed are not believed to have been factors in the crash.
