Nathan Earley, a music teacher, digs up a bamboo plant to transplant while cleaning up the courtyard at George Washington Carver Elementary School while Jen Kearns, a third-grade teacher at the school, looks on. Volunteers spent the morning sprucing up the grounds and courtyard at the school. Students later planned to plant greens, which were grown by Buddy’s Sustainable Market, a community farm and upstart educational organization that promotes sustainable practices and is assisting students in Carver’s FLOW mentoring program with growing vegetables this fall that will later be donated to a local food pantry.
