Welniak earns scholarship
Samantha Welniak of Charlotte Hall was awarded the Legacy of Excellence Scholarship by St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies.
Welniak’s academic excellence and potential for success in medicine make her a deserving recipient of the scholarship, according to a news release from the university.
St. George’s University, a top-ranked international private medical school, awarded the scholarship to 54 medical students of the entering class of 2016.
The Legacy of Excellence is a partial tuition scholarship awarded to entering students who demonstrate commitment and dedication to achieving academic excellence in a rigorous medical curriculum.
Recipients of the award are chosen based on academic merit and their commitment to their school and chosen profession.
The goal of the award is to provide students the means to affect the medical profession in innovative, noble and humanitarian ways. The university established the Legacy of Excellence Scholarship program in 2003 and has awarded more than $6.5 million in tuition scholarships to more than 200 students in its schools of medicine and veterinary medicine.
