Thursday, Oct. 11 — Code Name 4-5-6: This program is for fourth through sixth graders only, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Calvert Library Southern Branch. Students are invited to this series of events, which uses plenty of hands-on activities to have fun with reading. Thursday, Oct. 11 — Civil Discourse-Community and War: Using One Maryland One Book title “The Cellist of Sarajevo” as a catalyst for discussion, talk about war and what it means for community from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Calvert Library Prince Frederick.

Wednesday, Oct. 17 — “The Cellist of Sarajevo” by Steven Galloway: Discuss this One Maryland One Book selection, which tells the story of three people trying to survive in a city rife with the extreme fear of desperate times, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Calvert Library Fairview Branch.

Wednesday, October 17 — “The Kitchen Daughter” by Jael McHenry: Discuss the book from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Calvert Library Southern Branch. Ginny Selvaggio lives a sheltered life, unable to maintain eye contact, make friends or finish college due to her undiagnosed condition. The 26-year-old lives in her parents’ home, surfing the Internet and perfecting recipes. After her parents die, Ginny comforts herself by cooking and soon learns that the dishes she prepares can conjure spirits.
