Southern Maryland Martial Arts in Bryans Road and La Plata won 21 medals at the 2012 AAU National Taekwondo Championships, which took place in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., from July 2 to 7.

The academy won 21 medals nine gold, six silver and six bronze at the competition, which had over 3,000 competitors. The group also won a trophy for having the third highest number of sparring victories in the nation.
