Baseball and softball

The Southern Maryland Athletics 13-U travel baseball team will hold tryouts at Patuxent High School in Lusby from 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 13 and 20.

The Athletics are currently seeking veteran baseball players who are 13 and won't turn 14 until after May 1, 2013.

The 11-U Warriors travel baseball team will hold a tryout from noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 14. Players eligible are children who are 11-years-old before April 30, 2013.

St. Mary’s College of Maryland will host a six-week baseball camp starting Jan. 6 with St. Mary’s head baseball coach Lew Jenkins directing the program in conjunction with U.S. Baseball Academy.

Classes are available for players in grades 1 to 12 and are limited to six players per coach. Sessions are offered in advanced hitting, pitching, catching, fielding and baserunning.

The cost is as low as $99 for six weeks with proceeds to benefit amateur baseball in St. Mary’s City.

The Southern Maryland Xplosion 16-U travel softball team is looking for players for the 2013 season. For more information, call manager James at 240-346-2543.

The 10-U Southern Maryland Knights travel baseball team is looking for three additional players for the fall 2012 and spring 2013 seasons. Children who turn age 11 after April 30 are also eligible.

The Chesapeake Tide, an 8-U and 9-U travel baseball team, will hold tryouts through the fall and winter for players in the Southern Maryland area. Charles County Department of Community Services will hold registration for pee-wee basketball for children 5 and 6 (as of Sept. 1, 2012) through Oct. 27.

The cost is $50 until Oct. 13 and then $65 until Oct. 27. Volunteers are needed to coach and a 50 percent refund will be made off a child’s registration cost if selected to coach.

Cross country

The North Point cross country team will host its third annual middle school cross country meet on Oct. 13.

The two-mile course will be run on the North Point High School course beginning at the tennis courts.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. and is free to all middle school students.

Futsal

The Calverton Futsal League is looking for players for its winter season, which will take place Saturdays and Sundays from December to February at The Calverton School in Huntingtown.

The cost is $70 per player until Nov. 19. After that date, there is a $20 late fee.
