Brian John Stortzum, 30, of Leonardtown has been charged through a summons with tampering with property of the Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative by connecting an electrical conductor to get electric service to his home off Medley's Neck Road.

Stortzum and Amanda Lynn Abell, 30, of the same address, were charged with misdemeanor theft offenses through the investigation by St. Mary's sheriff's deputy Jessica Upright.

“Stortzum disconnected the neighbor's meter and placed it on Abell and Stortzum's residence meter, and were knowingly stealing electricity” valued at $63 during September and October, the deputy wrote in a charges application.
