The Parent Teacher Association of Deer Crossing Elementary School in New Market is seeking entries for its Reflections art contest.
Students enrolled in all grades at the school are invited to compete in the annual competition. The contest is part of the National PTA’s Reflection program, which encourages students to explore the arts and express themselves.
Contestants are asked to submit entries in several categories, including visual arts, photography, dance, literature and music composition. In addition, participants are asked to submit a statement about their entry and how it relates to this year’s contest theme — “The Magic of a Moment.”
Entries must be submitted to the school’s front office by Friday. They will be judged the following week by three local professionals working in art-related fields, according to Bernadette Miller, the PTA coordinator for the school program.
“Deer Crossing usually gets between 20 and 30 entries [each year],” she said.
Awards for the first, second and third place winners in each category include gift cards from area businesses. In addition, the winners will advance on to the county Reflections contest.
Miller said the school will have a gallery event to display the submissions sometime later in the month.
