A man is in police custody after a Friday afternoon chase that led Maryland State Police from Greenbelt to Silver Spring, eventually leading to the injury of an officer.

James C. Gregory, 23, of Washington, D.C., is charged with attempted murder, assault, theft of a motor vehicle, and numerous traffic charges after leading police on a chase from the Greenbelt Metro parking lot to U.S. Route 1 and the Ikea parking lot, to the Beltway and into Silver Spring, according to a news release from Maryland State Police.

Attorney information for Gregory could not be located Saturday morning.

The chase began around noon Friday, when police received notice of a stolen 2007 gray Honda Accord.

Police say Tfc. Manuel Moreno, a three-year veteran of the force, was intentionally struck by the man driving the vehicle. Moreno was attempting to lay down tire-deflating devices in the 10000 block of Baltimore Avenue in College Park, according to the news release.

Moreno was taken to Prince George’s Hospital Center, treated for minor injuries and released.
