Cynthia Kaye Adams, 64, Mechanicsville
Cynthia Kaye “Cindy” Adams, 64, of Mechanicsville died after a long illness Nov. 11, 2012, at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home, Charlotte Hall.
Born Oct. 11, 1948, in Walterboro, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Ray Freeman and the late Jane Quinn Freeman.
She was a senior chief journalist in the U.S. Navy until her retirment.
She joined the U.S. Navy in 1966 and retired in a husband-and-wife ceremony at Patuxent River Naval Air Station in November 1992. She served 26 years and started her career at Fleet Hometown News Center followed by tours at NAS Jacksonville, Fla., Hawaii, Washington, D.C., and Norfolk, Va.
Her awards and decorations include six Good Conduct Awards, Navy Achievement Medal, Merit Award, two National Defense Service Medals and the Antarctica Service Award. She was also a member of several military fraternal organizations. Her hobbies included working with the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department, where she was a life member, photography and raising collie dogs.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Rheet Renard Freeman.
She is survived by her husband, Neal Edward Adams; and brother, Terry Wayne Freeman of Virginia.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until time of fireman’s service at 7 p.m. Nov. 16 at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, Charlotte Hall. Inurnment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va., at a later date.
