Raymond Mitchell Gutrick, 82, Nanjemoy
Raymond Mitchell Gutrick, 82, of Nanjemoy died Nov. 7, 2012, at Civista Medical Center, La Plata.
Born Dec. 13, 1929, in Ironsides, he was the son of the late Mitchell and the late Jessie Carroll Gutrick.
Mr. Gutrick was employed as a supervisor for the Department of Public Works in Washington, D.C. He retired in 1985 after 30 years of service. He worked at the Nanjemoy Flower Farm for seven years. He provided foster care to seven adults over the last 15 years.
He was a member of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith in Ironsides, where he served for 56 years. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, shooting pool, barbecuing for family and friends and caring for his dog, Max.
He had a loving and caring spirit that showed in his smile.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Lee, Cliftin, Eugene, Clarence and Roland Gutrick; sons, Wayne Gutrick Sr. and William “Billy” Norwood III; grandsons, Wayne Gutrick Jr. and Daryl Wills; great-grandson, De’mondrey Bivins; sisters-in-law, Loretta and Patricia Gutrick; and brothers-in-law, Thadeus Pleasant and Paul Thompson.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Elsie Broadnax Gutrick; brothers, Theodore, Lawrence and his wife, Evelyn, Alfred, Charles and his wife, Helen, Rudolph and his wife, Grace and Carter and his wife, Elna; sisters, Florine Simpson and her husband, Steffin, Christine Pleasant and Cathleen Thompson; children, Barbara Wills and her husband, Tim, Denise Perkins and her husband, Eric, Rosemary Haywood and her husband, Floyd, Larry Matthews and his wife, Nona, Evon Adams, Linda Hodge and her husband, Melvin, Donald Matthews and his wife, Brenda, Diane Thomas and her husband, Charles, Raynette Nicoleau and her husband, Michael, Patricia Norwood and Michael Norwood and his wife, Florencia; 24 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; aunts, Bernetta Smith, 107, Hazel Gutrick, 104, and Ethel Tibbs; uncle, Donald “Morris” Carroll; dear friend, Rudolph “Sonny” Posey; and many other relatives.
Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. Nov. 17 at Williams Funeral Home, Indian Head. There will be a service at noon at the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith, Ironsides. Burial will take place at the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Theodore Gutrick, Alfred Gutrick, Charles Gutrick, Rudolph Gutrick, Carter Gutrick and Randy Lewis; Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Norwood Sr. and Michael Nicoleau.
