A Wal-Mart employee in Laurel is hospitalized after being shot by an unknown man who demanded money early Wednesday.
Around 4:17 a.m. Anne Arundel county police officers responded to the Wal-Mart in the 3500 block of Russett Green East for the report of a shooting.
Officers arrived to find a 28-year-old man, a Wal-Mart employee, lying in the parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body, Anne Arundel police said. He was transported to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
According to Anne Arundel police, the suspect entered the Wal-Mart, approached the victim and demanded money. The victim complied and handed over an undisclosed amount of money to the suspect, who then forced him outside and shot him in the parking lot then left in a dark-colored van, said Justin Mulcahy, a spokesman for the Anne Arundel police department. He said no additional information is being released at this time.
Moments later, Anne Arundel police received a call for a burning vehicle nearby at Hammerstone Road and Mayaone Street. Police said they believe it was the suspectís vehicle.
