The theme of the Catherine Foundation's annual fundraising banquet on Oct. 5 was "Every life has a beautiful purpose."

Held at the Jaycees center in Waldorf, the event attracted 600 guests.

Actress Shari Rigby of the 2011 movie "October Baby" was the speaker, sharing her own story of redemption, which mirrored the dramatic role she played.

Among the guests were many community leaders, including Del. Tony O'Donnell (R-Calvert, St. Mary’s) and Charles Lollar, previously a candidate for Congress from Maryland’s 5th District.

For 29 years, the Catherine Foundation has provided free and confidential services, including pregnancy tests; limited obstetrical ultrasounds; childbirth, parenting and fatherhood classes; maternity and infant clothing; and other infant essentials, such as formula.

The foundation’s CEO Heather Sells oversees a small staff and more than 40 volunteers who meet with clients to listen, encourage and help.
