The Greenbelt Police Department announced that it was recently awarded a traffic safety grant through the Maryland State Highway Administration.

The one-year grant, in the amount of $22,000, helps police officers conduct more enforcement in the areas of impaired driving, aggressive driving, pedestrian safety, motorcycle enforcement and occupant protection, said Kelly Lawson, the departmentís public information officer.

The department also received a $15,000 grant from the Maryland State Highway Administrationís Motor Carrier Division to perform commercial motor vehicle enforcement activities.
