About 100 Frederick area youth will represent their churches at a regional Christian youth conference in Ocean City this month.

Groups from nine area churches will attend the Alive 2012: Middle School Heroes Youth Conference.The weekend long conference — which is for children in grades 6-8 — will run from Nov. 16-18 at the Ocean City Convention Center, 4001 Coastal Highway. The event, which is sponsored by Metro Maryland Youth for Christ, is held to build the self-esteem and character of children in the region and help them to be a positive influence on others.

Registration for the event is $85 per person.

The conference will include a concert of Christian faith-based musicians, youth speakers and other entertainment. Eddie Bernier, spokesman for the event, said that the local chapter of Youth for Christ USA, a nationwide youth ministry, will also host a similar conference called IMPACT 2013: Beneath the Surface for high school students in March.

Area church groups registered to attend include Frederick Church of the Brethren in Frederick, Trinity United Methodist Church in Frederick, Connection Church in Mount Airy, Bethesda United Methodist Church in New Market, Elders Baptist Church in Sykesville, Mount Airy Baptist Church in Mount Airy and Calvary United Methodist Church in Mount Airy.
